Stephen Colbert, Wise Guy

Is Stephen Colbert ever serious? Is he always that pseudo-neo-con-mouthpiece, a la little Billy O'Reilly? Or does he ever side with Reality, about which Colbert has said, "Reality... has an extreme liberal bias."

Is Stephen Colbert ever himself?

Well, as it turns out, yes he is, part Report, mostly Wise Guy.

In June, Colbert gave the commencement address (imagine it!) at Knox College, adn here is the sparkling diamond in the rough he revealed:

"Don't be afraid to be a fool.... Young people who pretend to be wise to the ways of the world are mostly just cynics. Cynicism masquerades as wisdom, but it is the farthest thing from it. Cynicism is a self-imposed blindness, a rejection of the world because we are afraid it will hurt us or disappoint us. Cynics always say no. But saying 'yes' begins things. Saying 'yes' is how things grow. … 'Yes' is for young people. So for as long as you have the strength to, say 'yes.' "

To this, I say yes and begin (again).

Thanks for sharing the hopeful and supportive words.

According to my own poll, people are overwhelmingly appreciative of Mr. Colbert (smallandbig.blogspot.com).Of course, only three people have responded to it. But there it is. Hee hee!
